Media and Information Literacy is significant for insuring quality and comprehensiveness of learning and educating, and fundamental for the accomplishment of long lasting learnings. The reason for being information and media educated is to engage in a digital society; one needs to be able to understand, inquire, create, communicate and think critically. Information and media literacy empower individuals to decipher and make educated decisions as clients regarding data and media. A more extensive arrangement of proficiency abilities helping us to both appreciate the messages we get and adequately use these devices to plan and circulate our very own messages. Being proficient in a media age requires basic reasoning abilities that engage us as we decide.
Media and Information Literacy (MIL) often talks about knowledge, skills and the use of communicating information. The theme of this subject helps an individual to enhance his/her skills to information and knowledge. As a SHS student, I can help promote MIL subject by means to share accurate information in social media. As what we have noticed, there are numerous information that are not spurious and countless accounts that are being made from unreliable accounts. In addition, reminding the viewers and readers about the way they act and what they see in all forms of media is one way of promoting MIL subject. In this way, we can help students become competent, critical and literate in all media forms so that they control the interpretation of what they see or hear rather than letting the interpretation control them.
What we have learned from the subject is that it is crucial to us to be a media literate and information literate. In this subject we learned about the different types of communication models that can improve our speaking skills. We’ve also learned the evolution of media from its earliest time until now that make us look upon on this subject. Our teacher on this subject teaches us on how we should pronounce words properly and discovered new words and its meaning that we can apply to our research paper or other writing activities. Also, this subject boost our confidence and make us think as fast as we can because we are randomly selected by our teacher during oral and it was a great help to us to practice for any upcoming presentations.
The media and information literacy can help us on our daily life like watching television and listening to radio to get information about the recent happenings in our world. By these, we will be able to comprehend the situation for the possibilities that might come. Since people are fond of using cellphone nowadays, it is now one of important things a person should have or carry everywhere she/he go, it is the easiest communication device we can use to communicate others and also to get information from. It helps the society by the means of spreading information about something that can help our own society through newspaper, television, radio and etc. It also helps in promoting products through social media, magazine and etc. so that the people will be inform that those products are existing.
